We enjoy hosting casual get-togethers around here, and when you have to feed a large number of guests, a self-serve main dish is a great way to go! Something full of fresh, high quality ingredients, and big bold flavors. A taco bar is a great way to hit all of the above! This year, I wanted to take it up a notch: We elevated this humble big game dish by creating a gourmet spice mix & herbaceous crema. Presenting my Zesty Ground Beef Tacos with creamy Cilantro Lime Crema, using Hood Sour Cream!
I was super excited to have had the opportunity to collaborate with the great people at Hood on this recipe! I have always used their sour cream, and it was a staple in my house when I was growing up. The flavor is the same as when I was a kid, and I'm so glad that I can share it with my own children, now that I'm a mum! Hood is such an iconic New England brand; as a Boston girl I was raring to create something yummy with it!
Nutrition is always on my mind, especially since I'm feeding three hungry little boys at home. Hood uses only high quality milk and cream sourced from their own dairies in their sour cream (no artificial growth hormones!). You really can tell the difference - the flavor is just more "clean". It's pure deliciousness.
Besides the tub version for cooking or spooning into a bowl for your taco bar, you might want to try to the squeeze bottle for topping things off, especially if you have kids. My boys really enjoy the independence of topping their own food with the squeeze, and I like that it's a no-mess way for them to serve themselves!
Enjoy the Big Game and grab some Hood Sour Cream today!

½ teaspoon lime zest
2 teaspoons garlic powder
2 teaspoons chili powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
1 teaspoon dried oregano
½ teaspoon kosher salt
¼ teaspoon cumin
¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper
¼ teaspoon ground black pepper
¼ teaspoon smoked paprika
Using a box grater, zest your lime. Using a fork, juice the lime.
Place a large skillet over medium high heat and bring to temperature.
Once hot, add the ground beef to the skillet and allow to brown. Be sure to break up any large chunks of meat with a sturdy spatula.
When the meat is ¾ of the way cooked, add the spices, lime juice, and lime zest. Stir to combine. Cook fully.
Serve with fresh salsa, shredded cheese, avocado slices, radish slices, cilantro and Hood sour cream.
Cilantro Lime Crema
makes 8 oz
¾ cup Hood Sour Cream
3 tablespoons mayonnaise
1/3 cup (packed) cilantro
½ large jalapeño, seeded
1 teaspoon of fresh lime zest
1 tablespoon fresh lime juice
salt & pepper to taste
Wash and dry your jalapeño pepper and herbs. Trim any cilantro stems and roughly chop the cilantro leaves.
Add the Hood Sour Cream, mayonnaise, lime zest, lime juice, jalapeño, and cilantro to the bowl of a food processor. Next, add a generous pinch of salt and a few grinds of fresh black pepper.
Pulse to mix until smooth and creamy.
Transfer your crema to a medium sized bowl and cover with plastic wrap. Refrigerate for at least 15 minutes, to allow the flavors to blend.
This crema is also delicious on wings, nachos, or as a creamy salad dressing!
