A Study in Gin, Part I

I have never been a huge fan of gin. In fact, I would go so far as to say that I tried my darndest to avoid it. All of the brands I had tried were harsh and unpleasant, with a medicinal quality that no amount of mixing could hide. Blech.

All of that was before I found this incredible brand. This is the gin of a lost world. Full of botanicals, fruits, and general wonderment. It has completely and utterly changed my perspective on this beverage; Hendrick's Gin is amazing!

No, I am not getting paid in copious amounts of said gin (though, I wish I were). No, I'm not getting a penny, or even a t-shirt, out of this deal (though, I would wear it). This is my own opinion, plain and simple. The flavors of cucumber, rose, and elderflower lighten this gin and set it apart from the rest.

I have had a wonderful time trying new flavors and combinations of cocktails. So much so, that I couldn't decide which drink to present on my blog, and I have decided to make this a two part post! During my 'research' with this gin, I was somewhat shocked to discover that my enduring favorite has been the Classic Gin & Tonic with Lime. Refreshing, slightly sweet, and with fragrant herbaceous notes, it's no wonder this cocktail became a classic drink of choice for winding down the day. How civilized!

Classic Gin & Tonic with Lime
makes 1 drink

1:2 ratio of gin to tonic (For my glasses, that becomes 2 ounces of Hendrick's Gin and 4 ounces of tonic water)
juice of 1/2 lime
lime wedge or cucumber round to garnish

Fill a tumbler with ice. Juice 1/2 a lime into the glass. Pour in the desired amount of gin & tonic water. Stir gently and garnish with a lime wedge or cucumber round.

Note that tonic is available in regular or diet (if you want to save on calories). With the other flavors in the drink, I couldn't tell the difference between the two.

  1. ooh i do love a good gin and tonic.. never made my own though. thanks for the recipe!

    1. I was firmly in the Vodka & Juice camp for so many years, but this Gin & Tonic is my drink of choice now! It's just so tasty ad refreshing!
